EXPLORA

What if the most inspiring hotel isn't a hotel at all?

I stepped onboard EXPLORA III in Southampton this week, and having now seen the ship for myself, I can understand why Explora Journeys is trying to do things differently. I have to say, I was impressed.

The easiest way I can describe it is a luxury hotel at sea, but one where your view changes every day.

EXPLORA III is a large ship, but it doesn't feel like a large cruise ship. There is a huge amount of space, plenty of places to sit quietly or enjoy a drink, and a sense of calm that I haven't experienced on many larger ships. With fewer guests than you would typically find on a ship of this size, it feels spacious rather than busy.

And then there is the food.

There are some fantastic restaurant choices onboard, with a really good variety of styles and settings. Dining feels like part of the experience rather than simply somewhere you go because you need to eat.

It's not quite cruising as you know it

What really caught my attention is that Explora Journeys feels designed for people who may not think of themselves as "cruisers".

If you've never cruised before, this could actually be a really interesting place to start.

There are no endless queues, crowded public spaces or feeling that you have to follow someone else's timetable. Instead, there is the freedom to enjoy your day at your own pace, whether that means exploring a destination, relaxing by the pool, enjoying a long lunch or simply finding somewhere quiet to read.

And the itineraries are worth looking at too. Explora has some wonderfully different journeys, including shorter trips that make it possible to try the experience without committing to a long cruise.

That could be the perfect way to dip your toe into ocean travel.

And what is included?

This is where I think Explora becomes particularly interesting when you look at the overall value.

Your journey includes a wide range of dining experiences, beverages including fine wines and Champagne, Wi-Fi, onboard gratuities, wellness and fitness activities and more.

So although the headline price may initially look higher than some traditional cruises, it is really important to look at what you're getting for that price.

Once you take the inclusions into account, I think the value is quite compelling, particularly for those looking for a more luxurious, relaxed and inclusive experience.

Travelling solo?

This is another area where I think Explora is worth a closer look.

Selected Journeys currently have zero or reduced single supplements, making them particularly interesting for solo travellers.

And it isn't just about the price. Explora has created a very welcoming environment for solo guests, with plenty of opportunities to meet people naturally through dining, social gatherings and onboard activities, while equally giving you the freedom to enjoy your own space when you want it.

That balance is important. You can have company when you want it and solitude when you don't.

Tracy discovers Living Better for Longer at ZEM Wellness Clinic ZEM Wellness Clinic, Altea A personal visit to one of Europe's newest and impressive medical wellness retreats. Living better for longer starts here. I have just returned from my first personal visit to ZEM Wellness Clinic Altea and it has set a very high benchmark for medical wellness in Europe. Set in the hills above Altea with mountains behind and the Mediterranean stretching out ahead, ZEM combines advanced medical diagnostics with a holistic philosophy of health and longevity. But what struck me most is how seamlessly everything works together. This is not simply a spa retreat or a medical clinic. It is a place where you can understand your body properly and begin making meaningful changes.
