Tracy's trip to Peru

I was invited on a trip to learn about the magical place of Peru and it truly did not disappoint. The journey was packed, with visits to Cusco, Sacred Valley and Machu Picchu, followed by a two-day South American training academy in Lima before heading back home.

It was an incredible experience where I gained valuable knowledge. My previous travels to Buenos Aires and Rio during my BA days already sparked my love for this vast continent, and this trip reignited that passion. The people's warmth and dedication to their country and sustainability, the delectable food, affordability, and abundance of unique experiences left me in awe. Flights connecting through Europe offer access to all of South America, while BA provides direct routes to Costa Rica, Buenos Aires, Rio, and Sao Paulo. Whichever part sparks your interest we would love to offer you a Zoom consultation with one of our South American experts. Please let us know your preferred date and time.

Now let's delve back into my adventure in Peru...

Machu Picchu
It was an absolutely amazing day with incredible weather and breath taking views. Travelling by train was a great choice due to time constraints, offering a wonderful experience on its own. The Inca trail is a classic option for hiking enthusiasts, spanning 4 days and 3 nights. There are various alternatives like lodging, glamping, and horseback riding available as well.

For those short on time, there's a one-day hike entering Machu Picchu via the Sun Gate. It's advisable to book early as permits are limited. Spending a night in Machu Picchu or Aguas Calientes allows for an early morning exploration of the ruins before the crowds arrive as well as visiting in cooler temperatures rather than the blaring midday sun.

Sacred Valley
Immerse yourself in the tranquillity of this secluded Andean spot, an ideal starting point for your Inca adventure. Take your time to absorb the breath taking views and adjust to the altitude during a few days stay. Discover unique hotels that harmonise with nature, offering exceptional dining options and a variety of activities. Whether you prefer horseback riding, hiking, or simply relaxing by the pool with a Pisco Sour in hand, the possibilities are endless!

Highlights of Peru
I have only explored a small part of Peru, but you will have the opportunity to experience so much more. Consider a homestay in Lake Titicaca, marvel at the condors in the Colca Canyon, and wander through the colonial cities of Arequipa and Cusco. Peru pairs well with destinations like Brazil, Galapagos, the Amazon, and Chile. South America is perfect if you are looking for culture, a sense of history, warm hospitality (on all types of budget) and can suit any age with a sense of light adventure.

My advice is to prioritise quality over quantity; although it's tempting to want to see everything, South America is vast with long distances to cover. Ensure you allocate enough time to truly immerse yourself in the experience. Remember, you can always return for more adventures...

EXPLORA What if the most inspiring hotel isn't a hotel at all? I stepped onboard EXPLORA III in Southampton this week, and having now seen the ship for myself, I can understand why Explora Journeys is trying to do things differently. I have to say, I was impressed. The easiest way I can describe it is a luxury hotel at sea, but one where your view changes every day. EXPLORA III is a large ship, but it doesn't feel like a large cruise ship. There is a huge amount of space, plenty of places to sit quietly or enjoy a drink, and a sense of calm that I haven't experienced on many larger ships. With fewer guests than you would typically find on a ship of this size, it feels spacious rather than busy. And then there is the food. There are some fantastic restaurant choices onboard, with a really good variety of styles and settings. Dining feels like part of the experience rather than simply somewhere you go because you need to eat.

Tracy discovers Living Better for Longer at ZEM Wellness Clinic ZEM Wellness Clinic, Altea A personal visit to one of Europe's newest and impressive medical wellness retreats. Living better for longer starts here. I have just returned from my first personal visit to ZEM Wellness Clinic Altea and it has set a very high benchmark for medical wellness in Europe. Set in the hills above Altea with mountains behind and the Mediterranean stretching out ahead, ZEM combines advanced medical diagnostics with a holistic philosophy of health and longevity. But what struck me most is how seamlessly everything works together. This is not simply a spa retreat or a medical clinic. It is a place where you can understand your body properly and begin making meaningful changes.
